Thermal Imagery Study
Using the very latest thermal imaging technology we’ve been able to accurately show the major benefits of this new innovative system.
The study was carried out on three separate test subjects conducted under expert guidance of ACPAT Chartered Veterinary Physiotherapist, Laura Greenwood. Laura’s opinion was used to interpret the findings.
Each subject was exercised on separate days, in identical 20 minute schooling sessions which included walk, trot and canter. A current market leading saddle pad was evaluated in the first session, and the 3Spine System in the second. All 3 subjects where consistent in showing results that concluded the above images, clearly showing the benefits the 3Spine system offers.
3SPINE BENEFITS
Reduces friction & heat build-up
* Evenly distributes pressure
* Allows comfort & freedom
* Aids injury prevention
* Promotes circulation in vulnerable areas
LEADING BRAND COMPARISONS
All 3 subjects when exercised in current market leading pads showed consistent results as shown in the images above. Subjects showed excessive hot spots over wither, back & lumbar spine. Regardless of hi-wither design and/or pad cut during exercise all results found products to spread coming into contact with the subject along the spine, resulting in potential performance inhibiting friction, heat and pressure.
STUDY FINDINGS
The opinion of ACPAT Chartered Veterinary Physiotherapist, Laura Greenwood, was that in comparison with the alternative pads tested the 3Spine system clearly illustrated improved airflow under the gullet of the saddle, over the wither and lumbar spine. The increased airflow and reduced temperature was beneficial to allow circulation, there were considerable improvements over alternative saddle pads.
Care Instructions
Machine washable on a normal 30 degree cycle, followed by spinning to remove any residual water collected. Stretch the saddle pad into correct shape before air drying flat for best washing results.
The use of a wash bag is always recommended when washing saddle pads in traditional household washing machines. This both protects the machine & potential for snagging threads during washing.
Always remove D-Ring fasting straps before washing.
Do not tumble dry.
Streamline Dressage Pad
Note on the white saddle pad:
In order to prevent stains and to achieve an optimal washing result, we have used a poly-cotton edging instead of the velour edging for the white saddle pads.
Please note that the velcro saddle component is included. This product is also available separately.
The Streamline Dressage Pad is also available as Close Contact Jumping Pad.

Gravity Over Reach with Fleece
Many over reach boots have tried and failed to stop rotation during exercise. At Stübben and Evolution we decided to change to rules on tradition and design a boot that is effective regardless!
The ultra hard wearing kevlar straps naturally rotate to the lowest point, and are in position to protect from over reaches.
The luxurious faux fleece collar is perfect to protect from rubs and is washing machine friendly. The main body is made from our unique EVA carbon, die-pressed for an unrivalled lightweight, durable and protective boot.
These are perfect partners to our Fleece lined Airflow brushing boots.
Unique, simple and very effective!

Equi-Soft Girth
The Equi-Soft girth is a revolutionary answer to girthing discomfort. While everyone has spent significant time perfecting saddle design, little has been done to improve the girth over the centuries. The root cause of discomfort is the constriction caused by girthing which reduces circulation and decreases the range of motion of underlying musculature.
Various methods have been employed to mitigate girth pressure over the years such as elastic on one or both ends, mohair, string, and neoprene. Proper saddle construction and fit has lessened the need to over tighten a girth. In conjunction with proper saddle fit, all of these products provided relief by limiting the amount we can tighten the girth. Still, none of these products have effectively dealt with the root cause.
The Equi-Soft girth, when properly adjusted, effectively deals with the constriction by giving in all directions and markedly reducing the tension. This frees the underlying musculature, allows better circulation, and decreases the restriction of motion of the gut. As respiration is enhanced and the horse experiences less discomfort, pulse rate has been shown to be reduced during exercise. Since the muscles are less restricted, lateral flexibility is enhanced as well as the horse’s ability to employ the external obliques, serratus and other abdominal muscles necessary to support the topline. This is manifested in greater extension of the foreleg and more active employment of the hind quarters.

Tidbit – Foam vs Wool
For a pdf of this article, click here.
Wool, Wool, Wool, and one more time for good measure, WOOL! Stübben loves wool-flocked saddles. Why? Because your horse loves wool flocked saddles. The benefits of a foam panel vs. a wool flocked panel have been a long debated discussion in saddle making and every saddle maker has the option to stuff their saddles with whatever they want, and most have a reason for their choice. We are not going to sell foam panels short, after all our much loved Portos saddle comes with an optional foam panel, but if pure performance and comfort for your horse are what you are after then sticking with wool is the right choice and here is why.
Wool panels will conform to your horses back over time and can be easily adjusted to fit should your horse have a significant change in body condition. In contrast, a foam panel will always return to the same shape for a consistent fit, but the entire panel needs to be replaced with a new one if you have to make any adjustments for fit. Wool panels absorb the heat and moisture off your horses back reducing muscle fatigue. A foam panel will always run hotter; this is a similar problem to heat build up in a foam mattress. Communication between the horse and rider is enhanced with a wool panel over a foam panel. The foam essentially absorbs your aids where the wool transfers the energy back and forth between horse and rider making for more clear and responsive aids. This absorption quality in a foam panel does make for a slightly softer seat feel for the rider. As the riders weight comes down in the seat the panel will compress more than a wool saddle creating a softer “feel.” This is one reason many manufacturers choose a foam panel, but in truth the main reason is cost. It is by far more cost effective to use foam because it is less expensive and easier to produce than wool and takes no special skill to form into an effective panel. This cuts down significantly on manufacturing cost. For some companies this is a good enough reason to use foam exclusively, but for Stübben, where the horse comes first, we’ll stick with wool.
Tidbit – Saddle Balance
For a pdf of this article, click here.
A properly balanced saddle is the result of a properly fit saddle. A poorly balanced saddle is usually the result of a poorly fit saddle. Tree width, panel thickness, saddle position, and the pads you use are what affect the balance of your saddle. An out of balance saddle can be seen visually but also can be felt by the rider and the horse. Your horse has very sensitive nerves and muscles that an out of balance saddle will put undue pressure on. The pommel low saddle will balance more of the riders weight forward onto the accessory nerve and trapezius muscles. A saddle that is pommel high will balance more of the riders weight back onto the lumbar of the horse causing pain in the lumbar region. The rider feels the unbalance by being tipped forward in the pommel low saddle and tipped back into a chair seat in a pommel high saddle. Correcting an out of balance saddle improperly can cause more problems and is best left to a professional saddle fitter. Stübben saddle fitters are trained in identifying saddle fit issues that lead to an unbalanced saddle. With so many options in saddle fit, correcting these scenarios can get very confusing without the proper training. Next time you take a look at your saddle and something doesn’t look right give a Stübben saddle fitter a call to help get you and your horse back in balance.
A balanced saddle evenly distributes the riders weight across the entire length of panel and allows the rider to find a naturally balanced position.
A saddle with a low pommel will balance most of the riders weight forward on your horse’s accessory nerve and trapezius muscle. The rider’s position is tipped forward and into the pommel of the saddle with the leg behind the balanced position.
The pommel high saddle will balance the rider’s weight onto the lumbar of the horse and rock the rider back onto the cantle of the saddle in a “chair position.”
